Historic Information
Designed by prominent Georgia architect, G. Lloyd Preacher, and completed in 1927, the Medical Arts Building reflects a time of unprecedented growth in Atlanta’s downtown core. The 12-story building opened as a medical office building complete with ground-floor retail that included a pharmacy, barbershop, coffee shop, and a Western Union office. One notable feature of the Medical Arts Building is the attached parking garage, indicating the influence of automobiles on building design—a relatively new concept at the time. The design contains many Neoclassical elements such as a decorative cornice and a focus on architectural symmetry.
