DENVER, COLORADO — October 21, 2025 — GBX Group and Urban Cowboy Hotels are proud to share that Urban Cowboy Denver, housed in the restored George Schleier Mansion, was recognized with a 2025 Community Preservation Award from Historic Denver and the Molly Brown House Museum. The honor was presented at Historic Denver’s 55th Annual Gala, held October 16th at the Brown Palace Hotel.

The award celebrates projects that make exceptional contributions to preserving Denver’s heritage through restoration, adaptive reuse, and community engagement. Urban Cowboy Denver was unanimously selected for its thoughtful revitalization of one of the city’s few remaining grand Victorian residences.

Originally designed in the 1880s by architect Frank Edbrooke, the George Schleier Mansion was saved and rehabilitated through a partnership between Urban Cowboy founders Lyon Porter and Jersey Banks, GBX Group, and Historic Denver. The project restored the mansion’s intricate details, from its Bavarian staircase carvings and onion dome tower to hand-carved fireplaces and ornate plasterwork, while transforming it into a lively hospitality destination that reconnects the space to its social roots.

The project demonstrates a model of sustainable development through adaptive reuse and the mansion's historic character is protected in perpetuity through the use of a historic preservation easement. The property’s carriage house is home to Urban Cowboy Public House, where Little Johnny B’s offers wood-fired pizzas, shareable plates, and a spirited atmosphere that pairs seamlessly with the bar’s inventive cocktail program.
